Every now and then, you're watching a movie when Tudor City suddenly makes an appearance, and then just as suddenly, it's gone. These are cameo appearances; some examples.
Cary Grant in Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest. Grant is about to enter the U.N., where all his troubles will begin, but not without a nod to No. 5, at right.
Steve McQueen and Natalie Wood in Love with a Proper Stranger. Although the action takes place in a playground opposite the U.N., this publicity shot features No. 25 and No. 45 in the background.
A man eating his lunch and reading about Hazel Flagg, from Nothing Sacred, directed by William Wellman. Miss Flagg is thought to have radium poisoning – but doesn't – and Tudor City (top right) couldn't care less.
Barbara Stanwyck's dressing table (featuring a picture of her father) from Sorry, Wrong Number. Outside in the distance is the East River Drive, the smokestacks at 40th Street, and to the right of them, Tudor City, hidden behind the open window.
Meryl Streep and Robert De Niro in Falling in Love, where both leads are married to someone else. This meeting takes place in a skyscraper overlooking Tudor City and the East River.
